Our clients approached bi Design with a plan to completely transform their tired and underperforming property. They had occupied the house for over 20 years but had carried out very little maintenance to the building. Like most things, time caught up with the property and it needed extensive tlc to the existing to prolong its life span and value.
The client’s brief was to add extensive extensions including a large swimming pool to create large open plan modern living spaces. They also wanted the house to look grand and contemporary from the street scene.
The house design is based around Vastu Shastra a traditional Hindu system of architecture, which translates to Science of Architecture. Key principles included room and bed orientation & the number of treads on the staircase.
The outcome was to extend the existing roofline and mirror the existing front gable to create an impressive doubled gabled property. A new stone plinth was added to the perimeter. The house is to be finished in a smooth render with all-new aluminium windows, doors, and fascias. The rear of the house has lots of floor-to-ceiling glass to maximise the views over the surrounding fields. The amount of glass is to replicate a penthouse apartment within a grand house. The swimming pool was designed off the kitchen so the reflections from the water can be seen from lots of vantage points in the house. The swimming pool has lots of glass which overlooks the adjoining woodland.
