Our clients approached bi Design Architecture to extend and alter an existing barn conversion to create a new fourth bedroom with large ground floor utility bootroom. Our client also wanted to rework the existing staircases to create a more traditional first floor arrangement for a family home.
The solution was based around removing their existing fake turret which housed the second staircase and linking the two barns so that both could be accessed from the same stairs. Using our Sketchup programme we prepared 3D views to illustrate what this would look like once completed.
Two options for the link roof were considered, one with a traditional tile roof and another with a full glass roof. The outcome was to link the two barns together by creating a spacious open gallery staircase and landing with a vaulted ceiling incorporating a number of rooflights to allow natural daylight in. The second staircase was removed which meant the space was opened up into a large open dining room just off the kitchen.
