Our client approached us to add a large two-storey extension to a period property in a prominent roadside location on the outskirts of Ellastone.
The client’s brief was to add an art studio to the ground floor and two large bedroom suites to the first floor. The brief was presented with 2 challenges, firstly creating such a large extension within the open countryside and secondly working within the steep topography of the site.
The solution was to replicate the linear design of the existing house using the same stone and tile hanging detailing. The existing timber-clad extension would be transformed into a link between the two wings of the building.
A large gable was created to the rear with the steep bank chopped out with a new retaining wall.
The outcome is a beautiful addition to an established property where the new and old seamlessly blend together.
