Our client approached bi Design to extend the rear of their property to create a more open kitchen dining living space. Our client had concerns over the size of the rear garden and wanted to make sure any extension didn’t have too much impact on the size of the garden.
The solution was to build the extension to the far side of the existing kitchen and only extend part way across the kitchen not the full width. This retained as much garden as possible but produced enough floor area to extended the kitchen units into the extension.
The extension was designed with corner windows around the kitchen units and a vaulted lean to roof with roof lights to create a light and open kitchen. Special traditional looking clay tiles were used due to the shallowness of the roof pitch. This was acceptable to the conservation officer and prevented having to make alterations to the first floor windows.
Our clients have subsequently come back to bi Design to design a new two storey side extension which reworks the main living space to create a better proportioned living room and two new bedrooms over. As part of the new scheme we are also improving the kerb appeal of the house, with new render and stone detailing.
