Our client approached bi Design to extend their unique timber-framed prefabricated bungalow. The bungalow is set on a secluded open plot with great views over towards Lichfield and the client wanted to open up more of the living space to the garden.
The concept was to construct a single-story extension overlapping the existing corridor that linked the bedrooms to the main part of the house. The link was a nice light space but wasn’t usable as a room and the bedrooms already had a secondary lobby from the link.
The outcome was to produce a stunning extension where the room sat independently inside the roof structure which was constructed as a chunky oak frame on posts. The room inside was an independent oak and glass structure. The roof was neatly pitched in with the existing shingle roof. The overhanging roof whilst looking striking also created solar shading and the ability to open the bi-folds during wet weather.
The key to the design was utilising part of the existing lobby and not making too many structural changes to the prefabricated frame.
