Longvale, Lancaster Park, Needwood

Our client approached bi Design to transform an incomplete semi-detached commercial unit in close proximity to their existing office. The existing building was postponed mid-construction leaving an empty shell with no floors. The design of the existing building was very generic and the client was keen to create a striking and welcoming statement to the external appearance of the building to project a good first impression on new clients. The client also wanted the internal office and workshop spaces to inspire staff and create a friendly and productive work environment where they are proud of their surroundings and happy to be at work.

The solution was to model the building in sketch up and provide a number of concepts for the new entrance. The building sits in a prominent corner plot at the front of Lancaster Park so relating the entrance to the corner and the main road through the site was key. Each concept utilised cladding panels and render to mask the poor quality facing brickwork and brise soleils over the south-facing windows to offer solar shading.

The outcome was to create a large open reception entrance with two storey glass wrapping around the corner. The reception incorporated a feature staircase and glass platform lift. Externally the glazing filled the corner of the building between two oversized canopies which help to direct clients toward the entrance.
