Geary Lane, Bretby

Having recently bought a traditional farmhouse within the Bretby conservation area our client asked the team at bi Design to help them alter a number of unique characteristics such as the rear access and annexe, the garaging and main living spaces.

Our client wanted to create an open plan kitchen dining living space, a new first floor en-suite, a dressing room and a games room.

The solution was to demolish the existing flat roof garage block and construct a two-storey extension with an en suite and dressing room. The corner of the existing house was removed to create the dining and living space off the kitchen, and the new games room with a gallery mezzanine was created beyond the main extension.

The client had initially considered constructing a turret to create a secret staircase from the new en-suite. Using our 3D design programme we illustrated the games room showing the internal spaces including the mezzanine which created the secondary staircase and secret entrance to the en-suite. This design is far more contemporary than a turret and the turret would have created problems in gaining planning permission due to its location within the conservation area.
